Have you ever seen a purple or violet color gem stone on someone’s wrist or neck? Can you tell me the name of the gemstone? Do you know what the substances of that purple gem stone are? Have you ever wondered about the power of the gemstone? If you don’t know the answers to my questions here, let me introduce you Amethyst, an enchanting purple gem stone that has been adored by royalty throughout history, all the way back to 3000 B.C. in Egypt. Not only in history, but nowadays, peoples especially ladies also adored Amethyst.

Because of the beauty of Amethyst, I was interested to do some research on it through internet and books. A book entitled The Color Treasury of Gemstones by Dr. Eduard Gubelin has helped me to understand more about Amethyst the gemstone.

Today, I will focus on 3 major points. I will first start with the substances of Amethyst, followed by the superstitions about it and lastly, the special power of Amethyst.

There are a lot of chemical combinations before amethyst were born. Amethyst consists of volcanic rocks that could be found in Brazil, South Korea and Russia. Amethyst is not form in one color. The reason for this is the silicon dioxide (SiO2) penetrated in the magnetic cycle and participated in all stages of rock and mineral formation. For a few years ago, it is a common believe that the color of amethyst was form by presenting of manganese. With the understanding in chemical formation, gemologist find that iron and aluminum also responsible for the present of the Amethyst’s color. However, the changing of the color was unstable and subject to change on heating process done by the sun. Amethyst takes a long time to be form and when it form, the beauty of it cannot be challenge with any other gemstones that is present on the earth.

Back to our title, what we need to learn about Amethyst? Yes, the second point of my speech is the superstitions of Amethyst. Amethyst had their extraordinary superstition. This gemstone is birthstone for the Februaries. It is also associated with the astrological signs of Aries, Aquarius and Sagittarius. In addition, amethyst is also the zodiac stone for Pisces. Chinese peoples in Malaysia are believe that amethyst is a symbol of heavenly understanding and lead the way in thought and action on the philosophical, religious, spiritual and material planes. For example, Miss Fay, a person who sells and design gemstones in a shopping complex believes that Amethyst is a good gemstone to wear and to gain a spiritual inside someone. Beside the Chinese, the Indians also believe in gemstone. They believe that Amethyst can protect people against nightmares. This is a true story when my mother’s friend, Mrs. Viganti, who always has nightmares wear this Amethyst bracelet every night before she goes to sleep and the result, is positive. She doesn’t have nightmares while sleeping anymore.

For my last point, the special power of Amethyst. I will relate this point to our daily life. Nowadays, as you can see, ladies like to wear Amethyst as their accessories. For example, Amethyst is used as a necklace or bracelet. Because of its purple color, those who wear it will look elegant and beautiful. It is believe that purple is a soft color and suitable for the ladies. Besides that, do you realize, behind its beauty, there something that people don’t know. That is power of Amethyst which it brings together with its beauty. Amethyst is a gemstone that is good for mind. It will make the memory become stronger and it’s good for Alzheimer’s patients. Furthermore, it can prevent people from developing hypertension. Leonardo Da Vinci wrote that Amethyst was able to bring away evil thoughts and sharpen the intelligence.

With all my explanations here, all of you already learn about Amethyst in three major points. There are the substances of Amethyst, the superstitions about it and the special power of it.
